A pair of British women are set to break the Guinness World Record for tandem cycling around the world.

Cat Dixon and Raz Mardsen - who managed to grab the last ferry from France to England before the coronavirus halted the service - have cycled more than 18,000 miles across five continents since starting their journey in June 2019 and have raised over £20,000 for charity.

However, their voyage has come under threat towards its conclusion as a a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

In their Facebook blog, the pair were hopeful that using public transport in France due to the coronavirus lockdown wouldn't count against them in their record bid.

They wrote: ''We have cycled over 18,000 miles and as such we hope Guinness understand that we couldn't continue cycling in France because of the travel ban and other restrictions.''

The pair also confirmed that the planned to celebrate their epic journey once the threat of the virus subsides.
