The bigger the award show, the more luxurious the dresses, and guests at the 76th Golden Globe Awards truly stepped up the plate when it came to debuting pieces from some of the latest and greatest designers this year. Here are 10 of our favourite gowns from the red carpet.

Lili Reinhart

No-one can stop taking about the Riverdale actress' debut Golden Globes look this week. It was a strapless couture piece in scarlet tulle from an emerging London-based brand called Khyeli. Decked in shameless ruffles, it had an almost 19th-century bustle effect and kind of screamed bridal Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice. We are living for it.

Taylor Swift

It's true that Tay could wear a trash bag on the red carpet and still be stunning, but her black Atelier Versace gown was far from that. It was that flattering combination of off-shoulder straps and a deep leg slit, and in a daring sheer, beaded fabric. Paired with black nail varnish, she was truly embracing her dark side.

Alison Brie

Glow star Alison Bride swept the red carpet in a pale blue Vera Wang number. The layered tulle gave her a Cinderella effect, with the modern twist of a sumptuously embellished bralet on top. Without a doubt one of our favourite looks.

Lady Gaga

Arguably one of the most highly-anticipated outfits of the list, Lady Gaga did not disappoint as she accepted the award for Best Original Song for A Star is Born in a sky blue taffeta gown from Valentino. She epitomised red carpet royalty with her outlandish puff sleeves and huge train, and she even had blue hair to match. Plus, let's not forget those glittering to-die-for Tiffany jewels!

Leslie Bibb

Sam Rockwell might have been up for Best Supporting Actor for Vice, but all the eyes were on his partner Leslie Bibb as she rocked up wearing Chanel rival Schiaparelli. The gown was in nude tulle embellished with delicate black leaf detail, giving us soft gothic glamour. A true picture of elegance.

Danai Gurira

Representing Wakanda was Danai Gurira in a vivid orange custom Rodarte with red detailing and a huge ribbon on the shoulder. The Black Panther star was absolutely stunning even if she did look a bit like a Christmas present; she's certainly a gift to Hollywood.

Irina Shayk

Complementing partner Bradley Cooper's dazzling white suit was birthday girl Irina Shayk in glittering gold. She showed off every single curve in this embellished Versace dress, complete with a leg slit (which literally flatters any woman but definitely more so if you're a supermodel). It's her birthday and she'll sparkle if she wants to!

Halle Berry

Personifying sophistication was Halle Berry in a long-sleeved Zuhair Murad couture number in burgundy. We're pretty sure she had a stripe of every fabric known to man on her gown, but she looked the incredible, ageless beauty she is. And that neckline?! Décolletage has never been classier!

Taraji P. Henson

No award show is complete without someone gliding down the red carpet in classic Hollywood glamour. Empire star Taraji took our breath away in black velvet Vera Wang, brought up to date with a wide, plunging neckline. It might not be as complex as some of the other designs, but simplicity was the key to chic in this case.

Emmy Rossum

Monique Lhuillier is best known for her bridal wear and Shameless actress Emmy Rossum certainly looked like a Disney princess about to be wed in her dusky pale pink strapless gown with its tulle folds and ruffled neckline; not too dissimilar from Lili Reinhart's look, actually.
