Winter is finally over! Spring is with us and summer is just around the corner. With any luck, this summer we’ll escape the national lockdowns that have plagued the past two summers of the pandemic, and finally get the chance to go on holiday or just have nights out. Even if we’re stuck social distancing in our gardens this year due to the emergence of a new variant, these summer 2022 fashions can take the edge off.

2022 Fashion Trends

2022 Fashion Trends

Spring/summer 2022 fashion weeks saw neon colours take the fashion world by storm. This year, expect to see lots of bright neon yellows, lime greens, and hot pinks on the high street. Y2K-inspired fashion is all the rage right now, and you’ll definitely see plenty of low-rise, hip-hugging looks, crop tops, and mini skirts this year – but expect to see neon colours across the spectrum of sartorial choices. Designers like Christian Siriano and Valentino are offering fancy, lime-green party dresses, while houses like Stella McCartney and Prabal Gurung offer sophisticated-yet-casual summer looks in the shade. And if you don’t like lime green, maybe highlighter pink or neon yellow is your shade.

Feminine Pastels

Nothing says springtime like feminine pastels, but summer 2022 fashion trends for women are seeing a comeback of hyper-feminine looks. This summer, ditch the androgynous looks and go for frilly, frothy fabrics and pretty pastel hues. Pastel pinks, purples, and fuschias are in, as well as rich butter yellows.

Shimmery Metallic Fabrics

Sequins are out, and it’s just as well, as they’re not very good for the environment. This season is bringing the sheen with metallic fabrics in silver and gold hues. Shop maxi dresses, pleated skirts, baggy low-rise bottoms, and trouser suits in shimmering, metallic fabrics for a luxurious, molten look.

White Ensembles in Suiting Fabric

It’s been two long years of lockdowns, working from home, and tracksuits, but suiting fabrics are finally back. This spring’s fashion weeks showcased a range of apparel in brilliant white suiting to make going back to the office more palatable. Choose bright white pieces with black accents – black buttons or other hardware. Black-and-white ensembles are also in at the moment, so check the high street for those black-and-white polka dots, stripes, and animal prints.

Mini-Skirts

Get your pins out! This summer, ultra-mini skirts are back in vogue. Hemlines aren’t soaring across the board – you’ll still find plenty of pleated midi looks and even tube-style maxi looks – but this summer’s mini skirt looks are small slips of fabric that leave most of the thigh exposed. Choose bright statement shades, eye-catching prints, and shimmery, metallic fabrics to make the most of this trend.

Leg Accessories

Your legs might be on display, but they needn’t be naked – not this summer. Summer 2022 will be the season of leg accessories – think feathered thigh-high boots, frilly lace leggings, and embroidered hosiery.

Crop Tops

Pay homage to Y2K fashion this summer with crop tops that come down to just below the bust – wear them with your ultra-mini skirts to complete the look. Cut-off tops, tube tops, baby doll tees, and halter tops with butterfly patterns are all back for summer 2022. This year, you can even wear bras as tops, either on their own or layered under a blocky blazer or oversized motorcycle jacket.

Pleated Midi Skirts and Tube Maxi Skirts

Mini skirts aren’t for everyone, but this year you’ll find plenty of midi and maxi options on the high street, too. Pleated midi skirts are wearable with tube tops, crop tops, bralettes and bras, long knits, and structured blouses. Tube-style maxi skirts give a nod to Y2K fashion, and illustrate this season’s love of fashion extremes.

Cut-Outs

Cut-outs have been popular for a few seasons now, and they’re not going anywhere. For summer 2022, choose long, elegant dresses with cut-outs on the torso from designers like David Koma, Proenza Schouler, and Christian Siriano. Cut-outs come in a wide range of colours and styles, from maxi to mini dresses and even onesies or rompers, so there’s something for everyone who wants to try this trend.

Feathers

Feathers have been popping up all over the various fashion weeks this season, in pinks and pastels as well as simple blacks and whites. Look for feathered mini dresses, boots, sandals, and halter tops from designers like Max Mara, Prabal Gurung, and David Koma.

Summer 2022 is almost here, and it’s bringing bright colours, metallics, and feathers with it! Hit the high street now, and snap up your summer fashion essentials before they’re all sold out.
