The first teaser trailer for 20th Century Studios' Avatar: The Way of Water has arrived, having first debuted in cinemas on May 6th, 2022.

As the follow-up to the highest-grossing movie of all time, the film has a lot to live up to and so, director James Cameron has been taking his time to perfect what should be one of the most stunning big screen experiences of all time.

Set more than a decade after the events of the original flick, The Way of Water tells the story of Jake and Neytiri Sully, as well as their children, and of course the chaos that follows them. Going to any lengths necessary to protect one another, they must battle to stay alive and endure tragedy, in a fight for a better future.

As well as directing, Cameron produces alongside Jon Landau. Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington star in the film, with Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement and, Kate Winslet.

Having seen the teaser for The Way of Water, I can’t make my mind up on whether I’m super excited to see the return of James Cameron’s magical world or, if the over-reliance on CGI will put me off completely. It’s true that all of what we’ve been shown so far will look like a real vision in cinemas, but will the obvious use of special effects take away from the film’s immersion overall?

It’s a tough question to answer. What I know for sure is that the movie is going to be one you just HAVE to see on the big screen, preferably in IMAX, if you’re looking for the full experience.

Alongside the teaser, a handful of first look film stills were released, which you can check out below:
