The Oscar winner is set to return to the role of Mystique next week for her third outing in the role in a movie that sees her reunite with James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Nicholas Hoult.

The actress was at the premiere in London earlier this week and talked about the development of this character in the new movie. She said: "I feel like she is really starting to mature and she is not so focused on rebelling against Charles. They have their different ideals but they do manage to find a common thread."

While there are plenty of familiar faces on the cast list, there are a whole host of new names as Oscar Isaac, Olivia Munn, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, and Alexandra Shipp are all on board.

And Lawrence admits that she was impressed by what these actors brought to the set and to their characters.

She continued: "It is really exciting. We have got new cast members that were really impressive. Olivia Munn has had some amazing fight scenes and she has been incredible. A lot of people have really stepped up to the action plate."

This is the first time that we have seen Lawrence take on the role of Mystique since the success of Days of Future Past in 2014. The movie sees her reunite with filmmaker Bryan Singer for their second project together.

2016 has already been a great year for Lawrence, picking up a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her performance in Joy back in February.

X-Men: Apocalypse is her first film since Joy but she has already completed work on Passengers, which will see her star alongside Chris Pratt.

X-Men: Apocalypse is released 18th May.
