Dolly Parton at Glastonbury Festival

Glastonbury Festival this year played host to the one and only Dolly Parton, and despite her being a country artist predominantly, her take to the stage at the event has been named the year's best pop music moment in a new poll commissioned by music streaming service blinkbox Music.

The star played the prestigious Legends slot at Sunday tea-time and received a rapturous welcome for her debut at the festival, watched by thousands of all ages.

Trailing just behind her was Fleetwood Mac who announced their long-awaited reunion earlier in 2014, whilst Sam's Smith's emotional rendition of 'Stay With Me' at the MTV Video Music Awards came in at third.

Kate Bush's long-overdue return residency at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire was voted into fourth place, and Band Aid 30 took the fifth slot with a new rendition of 'Do They Know It's Christmas?'.

Rowan Adams of blinkbox Music said of the results: "The results of our poll proves that there's no substitute for raw talent. Dolly Parton, Fleetwood Mac and Kate Bush landing the top five spots is testament to their skill as artists and their enduring appeal. It should serve as a lesson to the new kids on the block - having the X Factor doesn't wear off over time."

Celebrating a year of amazing moments in the world of pop music, the study started with blinkbox Music commissioning OnePoll to conduct the nationwide research, coming up with a long list of 30 moments from the year, before asking 2,000 British adults to select their favourites.
