The royal and his wife Princess Charlene are passionate about protecting the environment and working to stop climate change and Albert hopes that their almost 10-month-old twins, Jacques and Gabriella, will continue their work when they are older.

He told Paris Match magazine: "They have to be prepared. We will do everything so that our children will be well educated and informed on these issues.

"They will have to act. Therefore, we must prepare them now to address these issues and environmental questions and imagine solutions for themselves.

"Charlene is very concerned about these issues."

Albert revealed he inherited a love of nature from his parents, Princess Grace and Prince Rainier.

He explained: "My mother led us often on walks here, in the back country. My father was more the sea. He helped us discover the marine environment and to respect nature."

Prince Albert will take part in the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21), which starts in Paris on November 30.
