A handbag is many things; a fashion accessory to finish off a killer look, a handy place to carry around your things, and if you’re the Queen, it’s also a tool to send sly codes to your staff when you’re bored of a conversation.

If you ever find yourself in a situation where you’re having a natter with the Queen, keep an eye on where she holds her handbag - you’ll be able to tell how engaged she is with the conversation based on this.

Left to right

The Queen always carries her handbag on her left arm, but if she’s ready to wrap up a conversation, she will switch the handbag to her right arm.

This serves as a signal to her staff that she is done chatting, and they will whisk her away politely.

Under the table

Slightly more concerning would be a situation where the Queen puts her bag under the table. This is apparently a secret code to alert her staff that she is not enjoying the conversation she is having.

Her staff will then come along and rescue her from the conversation.

Ring spinning

The one signal you definitely don’t want to see is the Queen spinning the ring on her finger. This is an urgent cry to be taken away - the Queen is super fed up and needs to leave ASAP. Ouch…
