Fans of The Walking Dead will be forced to wait a little bit longer for the series final episodes, after much-loved actor Norman Reedus - who plays Daryl Dixon on the TV show - suffered a concussion whilst filming.

Speaking with Deadline, Reedus' spokesperson Jeffrey Chassen explained: "Norman suffered a concussion on set. He is recovering well and will return to work soon. Thank you to everyone for their concern."

AMC, who is the production company behind the zombie-infested series, has been forced to postpone their final day of filming. Meanwhile, Reedus has also had to pull out of appearing at a convention in Atlanta, Georgia which is taking place this coming weekend.

This isn't the first time the actor has suffered an injury as a result of filming The Walking Dead, as he also endured some cuts to his arm when shooting scenes in a barn, back during production on Season 5.

Though the main series is set to conclude in late 2022/early 2023, this isn't the end of Reedus' journey as part of the Walking Dead universe.

He will instead be moving into a spinoff series, alongside Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier, with creators hopeful that the two fan-favourite characters will ensure future longevity for the 'Deadverse'.

We've also learned that Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be joined by Lauren Cohan, as the two reprise their roles of Negan and Maggie, in yet another spinoff.

The end for The Walking Dead has felt like a long time coming, but I'm sure those who have stuck with the series for this long won't mind waiting just a little while longer so that Reedus can fully recover from his injury and give his all to some of his final scenes.

What's more concerning however, is that these on-set accidents seem to keep happening. Stuntman John Bernecker died on the set of The Walking Dead back in 2017 in a tragic accident, so those working behind-the-scenes should be working harder than ever to ensure that everybody working under their direction is safe.

The Walking Dead is currently available to watch on streaming service Disney+.
