From David Simon, HBO’s The Wire began in June 2002 and redefined TV as we knew it. The series is based in Baltimore, and follows a Detective and his team who aim to close the gap between drug kingpins and law enforcement.

The show allowed audiences to see the story from both the point of view of the agents as well as those they attempt to hunt down.

From the drug-filled streets of West Baltimore to the corruption inside City Hall, The Wire follows the good, the bad, and the ugly of a post-industrial American city.

With the dual perspectives fans got to see from, the award-winning series captures and contains a world where the seemingly easy distinctions between what is good and what is evil, in addition to crime and punishment, are challenged at every opportunity.

The Wire stars many recognisable faces, such as Dominic West (Tomb Raider) and Idris Elba (Luther); the series also includes Lance Reddick (John Wick), five-time Emmy Award-Nominee Michael Kenneth Williams (HBO’s Boardwalk Empire), Sonja Sohn (Star Trek: Discover), Wendell Pierce (Selma), John Doman (Mystic River), with Deirdre Lovejoy (The Blacklist), and Seth Gilliam (The Walking Dead),

The complete series of The Wire will be available on Blu-ray and DVD next month, with a unique case. The bonus features for the box set include:

  • Four behind-the-scenes documentaries
  • 22 audio commentaries with cast and crew
  • Three prequels that explore life before The Wire
  • Paley Centre for Media event: The Wire Reunion

The show ended in March of 2008 with a stellar finale, and now fans can re-live the entire season all over again, but this time in stunning HD quality.

The Wire celebrates its 20th anniversary on June 2nd, 2022, so make sure you grab the box set ready to rewatch the whole show once again.
