A photograph of the traditional English breakfast was uploaded to the Twitter page Rate My Plate with the green vegetable included, which enrage many users on the social media site.

One user said: ''That plate is a criminal offence.''

Another person took the criticism further and scrutinised the whole dish.

They wrote: ''No peas in an English Breakfast. Proper bacon too not that processed muck on there. Mushrooms, tomatoes and optional black pudding are missing. Hash browns are ok but they are not part of it either - an American invention.''

Singer Beverley Knight waded into the debate, simply commenting: ''Peas. No.''
