Transitional pieces in your wardrobe are essential for the unpredictable British weather, the idea of a capsule wardrobe filled with adaptable items of clothing that can be mixed and matched to create the perfect outfit for any type of weather will save you money and the planet all at the same time. The catwalk shows for this Spring/Summer were filled with the perfect transitional pieces and items that had the versatility to be used on those ‘in between season’ days. So, here are five long lasting investment items which can be added to your capsule wardrobe and be used for every season.

Shirts

Shirts can be an extremely versatile piece to have in your wardrobe, they can be tied, tucked, pinned, layered and belted to keep your style fresh and new even though the shirt is the same. Used for both evening looks and casual looks, a crisp white shirt is a great investment to add to your collection. To style, add a basic t-shirt, layer over an oversized white shirt and pair with blue mom jeans and chunky trainers such as Nike Jordans, to create a relaxed street style look. For a more elegant evening look pair leather leggings with a pair of strappy heels, add white shirt buttoned half way and tuck one half in the front of the leggings and let the rest drape over, finish the look with gold earrings and a black bag with gold detailing.

Belts

On the catwalks it seemed that designers had refreshed the look of belts making them thicker and more simple than previous years. They had paired wide leg trousers with a belt around the waist to create a cinched in look and show a large contrast between the waist and trousers creating a beautiful silhouette. It was also seen on the catwalk that designers had opted for belts which had eyelets running all the way through the length of the belt creating a metallic element and making the belt the focus of the outfit. To style, pair balloon jeans with a black belt to create a cinched waist, add a blazer and a large clutch bag for an elevated daytime look. For a more casual approach pair wide leg trousers with a thick belt, add a graphic t-shirt and trainers for a relaxed day time look.

Day to Night Dress

As the roadmap out of lockdown seems to be going to plan it is only right that you invest in a dress that is going to be perfect for those unexpected nights out. By investing in a dress that is suitable for the day time but can be used also for the evening is going to save you a lot of hassle. I would recommend opting for a midi dress in a neutral tone, try not to get anything too over the top as you will want it for those casual shopping days as well. To keep a dress relaxed, pair with chunky trainers, or if the weather is on your side a pair of sandals, add an across the body bag, gold jewellery and a leather jacket for an easy day time look. For an evening look swap the trainers for heels and the leather jacket for a blazer, I would also opt for a chunky clutch bag to bring the look together.

Blazer

Blazers are this year's favourite accessory on the catwalk, they have had an influx of popularity and can make any basic outfit fit for a night on the town. Celebrities such as Jess Hunt, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner have all been a major fan of the power blazer whether this be in a matching suit set or just perched on their shoulders, I for one hope it never disappears. The only rule with a blazer is to make sure it fits right, this does not mean you cannot opt for an oversized blazer however it is important to check it fits well on the shoulder so it can really compliment you and not swamp you. For a very relaxed day time look pair cycling shorts with a matching cropped top and add an oversized blazer, I would recommend choosing a muted, neutral tone as it will be easier to style, complete the look with trainers. For an evening look match the blazer with boot leg trousers and belt the blazer for an extra touch of class.

Tote Bag

Who ever said you cannot have enough handbags was absolutely correct! With the ever growing list of designers the bags keep evolving and what better excuse than to buy another bag. I would recommend opting for a larger, sturdier bag perfect for days at work, shopping or running errands. It needs to be versatile. Spacious enough to fit your belongings but will not cause you a problem when you are running around the city. To style a large bag pair jeans with a fitted top and a pair of chunky trainers so all eyes are drawn to your handbag.
