Tom Hiddleston has described his new movie War Horse as 'breathtaking'.

The movie sees the Thor actor team up with filmmaker Steven Spielberg to bring the stage play and the novel by Michael Morpurgo to the big screen.

Hiddleston teams up with an all star cast for the movie including Benedict Cumberbatch, David Thewlis and Emily Watson.

Speaking to the Press Association the actor said: "I think the experience of the film is breathtaking.

"Just because it's a war film, it's about hope and courage and perseverance, set against the shocking waste of that particular war."

"That's the war in which Europe lost its innocence and lost a generation of young men. So many soldiers were killed.

"Spielberg told me he's been looking for a story to tell about the First World War for a while, and then he saw the stage show and was moved beyond words by it and then later discovered in his research for the film, that approximately nine million horses were killed in the First World War.

It's been a busy year for the actor as he has already found success this summer with blockbuster movie Thor - he which he took on the role of Loki.

He will reprise that role for The Avengers - which is currently being shot. And The Deep Blue Sea, in which he stars alongside Rachel Weisz, will feature at the London Film Festival.

War Horse is released 13th January 2012.
