In June this year (2022), music fans will be able to witness the incredible story of Elvis Presley on the big screen.

Elvis is an upcoming feature that stars Austin Butler (Once Upon A Time in Hollywood) in the titular role of The King of Rock and Roll; the film has also cast Oscar winner Tom Hanks (The Green Mile, Catch Me If You Can) as Colonel Tom Parker.

Elvis will be delving into the life and music of Elvis Presley himself, told through the prism of his complex relationship with Colonel Tom Parker.

The tale of Elvis will uproot the complicated dynamic between The King and Parker, which spanned over two decades.

We will follow Elvis’ life story, from his rise to stardom against the backdrop of an ever-evolving and challenging cultural landscape, as well as the faltering innocence of America.

At the centre of Elvis’ journey to stardom and someone who influenced him to no end, was Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).

Baz Luhrmann will be sitting in the director’s chair for Elvis; Luhrmann has directed some classics in his time, such as Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet from 1996, which starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Claire Danes, and Marvel’s Paul Rudd.

Luhrmann also helmed The Great Gatsby (2013), working again with DiCaprio as well as Spider-Man (2002) actor Tobey Maguire.

It is clear from these two films alone that Luhrmann knows how to create a beautiful film, especially one that is based on other standout works of art; it seems that Elvis’ story has been left in safe hands.

The trailer for Elvis showcases his role as a sex icon, and how his music and performances were adored by many, especially women.

Elvis is set to be something really special, and with a brilliant ensemble cast that includes Helen Thomson (Top of the Lake: China Girl) who will play Elvis’s mother, Gladys, and Richard Roxburgh (Moulin Rouge!, Hacksaw Ridge) who will depict Elvis’ father, Vernon.

King, with Xavier Samuel (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) plays Scotty Moore, and Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Power of the Dog) playing Jimmie Rodgers Snow.

Elvis will be in UK cinemas on June 24th, 2022.
