Disney have a seemingly endless collection of stunning classics, from 101 Dalmatians and Cinderella, to more recent flicks like Luca. However, Disney+ will be welcoming a familiar story to its platform...
Pinocchio is back, and with a brand new look! Disney released the new and exciting first-look image only yesterday (March 9th, 2022), and it shows one of the world's favourite actors alongside the famous puppet.
Tom Hanks, who has starred in films such as The Green Mile, the Toy Story franchise, Castaway, and more recent releases like Finch, has been cast as Geppetto, Pinocchio’s creator, a wood-carver who builds Pinocchio (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) and treats him like a real child.
Academy Award winner Robert Zemeckis will be directing the upcoming live-action retelling of a simple wooden puppet who takes the plunge and begins his very own adventure to become a real boy.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Knives Out) will be playing Pinocchio’s life guide and ‘conscience', Jiminy Cricket; Academy Award nominee Cynthia Erivo (Bad Times at the El Royale) is the Blue Fairy; Keegan-Michael Key (Keanu) is ‘Honest’ John; Academy Award nominee Lorraine Bracco (Goodfellas) is new character Sofia the Seagull; and Luke Evans (The Hobbit franchise) will portray The Coachman.
Given Disney’s success with live-action remakes in the past few years, such as Cruella, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast and Dumbo, there is no doubt that the forthcoming version of Pinocchio will serve its fans well.
While there is no trailer for Pinocchio at the moment, the movie is set to release before 2023 makes an appearance, so hopefully someday soon will bring us even a brief look into what the 2022 iteration of Pinocchio will offer.
Robert Zemeckis, Derek Hogue, Andrew Miano, Chris Weitz and Paul Weitz are the film’s producers, with Jackie Levine, Jack Rapke, Alexandra Derbyshire and Jeremy Johns as executive producers.
Pinocchio is set to release onto Disney+ in September 2022.
