Steven Soderbergh

Steven Soderbergh

I love Steven Soderbergh movies and this week he is back in the director's chair with Haywire.

Once again it's another ensemble piece as Gina Carano, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Channing Tatum, & Michael Douglas are all on the cast list.

To celebrate the release of the movie we take a look at some of the greatest actresses who have worked with Soderbergh over the years.

Jennifer Lopez - Out Of Sight

In 1998 Jennifer Lopez teamed up with George Clooney in the stylish crime movie Out of Sight.

The role allowed Lopez to show off her tough side and she sizzles alongside Clooney - their chemistry is just pitch perfect.

This movie is intelligent and action packed from the opening scenes as well as including some really intriguing characters.

Out of Sight was the most ambitious project for Soderbergh at the time and it deserved to be more successful at the box office then it was.

Julia Roberts - Erin Brockovich

Soderbergh took on the biography movie in 2000 when he brought the story of Erin Brockovich to the big screen.

The movie teamed him up with Julia Roberts, in what is the greatest performance of her career.

It's an emotional and powerful performance from the actress - and there is not a single second of this movie when you are not rooting for Erin.

This story has been told with such finesse and compassion it really it a moving and powerful watch.

Roberts went on to win the Best Actress Oscar for her central performance.

Catherine Zeta Jones - Traffic

2000 was a super successful year for the filmmaker as he has also had Traffic released.

This is an complex story that Soderbergh tells with this movie but the fast pace kept the movie on track and never allowed to get bogged down or lose focus.

The ensemble cast are all fantastic but Zeta Jones really did show that she had some acting muscle with this role.

Cate Blanchett - The Good German

In 2006 Soderbergh brought the adaptation of the Joseph Karion novel The Good German to the big screen.

He worked once again with George Clooney but it teamed him up with Cate Blanchett.

No matter what movie you put Blanchett in she just looks so stunning and he looks incredible in black and white.

Ok so this is not the best movie that Soderbergh has ever made but it was a bold choice from all involved.

The cast do the best with what they have and, despite it's flaws, the movie does look beautiful.

Gina Carano - Haywire

With new movie Haywire Soderbergh give a first major lead role to Gina Caranao.

This is a kick ass role for the MMA fighter who holds her own well alongside a very experienced cast.

Mallory Kane (Carano) is a highly trained operative who works for a government security contractor in the dirtiest, most dangerous corners of the world.

After successfully freeing a Chinese journalist held hostage, she is double crossed and left for dead by someone close to her in her own agency.

Suddenly the target of skilled assassins who knew her every move, Mallory must find the truth in order to stay alive.
