After a two-year break thanks to a global pandemic, the 20th anniversary of Primavera Sound is finally set to take place across June 1-12 this year with 220,000 expected to be in attendance. Not only will it play out at a major festival venue, but it will also invade the city venues over the course of the 12 days.

The festival will kick off proper at Parc del Fòrum in Sant Adrià, Barcelona on Thursday, June 2, wrapping up at the venue for the first weekend on June 4.

Pavement and Tame Impala headlining the Thursday, along with more artists such as Charli XCX, Cigarettes After Sex, Dinosaur Jr., Girl In Red, Kacey Musgraves, Kehlani, Mabel, Sharon Van Etten, Rina Sawayama and The Linda Lindas.

Friday will see Beck, The National and The Strokes, plus Bikini Kill, Jamie XX, Caribou, Warpaint and Little Simz; and Saturday will be headlined by Gorillaz, Jorja Smith, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Tyler, The Creator with support from the likes of Bauhaus, Disclosure, Idles, Napalm Death, Slow Thai and many more.

Primavera is certainly one of the most diverse music festivals in the world, spanning genres including pop, indie, electronic, goth, metal, country, rap, soul and punk. So it doesn’t matter who you are, you’re certain to find your niche.

Following Primavera Sound’s first weekend is Primavera a la Ciutat which will take place across various city venues and includes much of the initial line-up; Beck will be playing on June 5, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard will play not only the Friday at Parc del Fòrum, but also June 5, 6 and 7. Jorja Smith will join them again on June 7, as well as June 8 when Megan Thee Stallion will also be performing alongside Phoenix and Interpol.

We have to mention, though, that Primavera a la Ciutat also includes a date ahead of the main festival; Rina Sawayama will be on top of the bill on June 1, with Kokoko, The Linda Lindas and Wet Leg joining her.

The second weekend will feature headliners Dua Lipa, Gorillaz, Interpol and Tyler, The Creator on Thursday, June 9, along with Amyl and the Sniffers, King Gizzard again and Playboi Carti. Friday sees Lorde and The Strokes headlining a day which also includes The Jesus and Mary Chain, M.I.A. and Run the Jewels.

Saturday, June 11 will be headlined by Jorja Smith, Megan Thee Stallion, Tame Impala, Phoenix, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

June 12 marks the final day of the festival bonanza with Brunch on the Beach hosting DJs Amelie Lens, Nina Kraviz and Peggy Gou among others.

If you’re attending the Barcelona festival this year make sure you download the official app which will help you organise your itinerary for each day, familiarise yourself with the sites and avoid getting lost, as well as share your location with friends.

Running at the same time as Barcelona’s festival, Porto in Portugal will also be hosting their own event, Nos Primavera Sound, at Parque da Cidade from June 9-11.
