Plane passenger locked inside cabin

An American traveller was left locked inside an aircraft when cabin attendants failed to wake him up at the end of a flight.

''I was coming from Louisiana to see my sister in California. We had a layover in Texas. I just took my hat off and I took a nap.''

Tom Wagner had been sleeping on board a flight from Lafayette, Louisiana to Houston, Texas when he woke up to find the plane had emptied, the lights has been turned off and the doors locked.

He told CNN news channel KTRK: ''I was coming from Louisiana to see my sister in California. We had a layover in Texas. I just took my hat off and I took a nap.''

Tom was left reeling after the incident and felt neglected by the cabin crew who had failed to spot him as they vacated the aircraft.

He said: ''What if I had a medical condition or something? What if I had a heart attack and I was dead? You just shut the plane and leave someone on there?''

Wagner was eventually freed from the plane after calling his girlfriend who then informed United Airlines of the mistake. The flight operators, Express Jet - a partner of United Airlines - failed to explain how he was missed during the routine post-flight cabin checks.

Wagner has since confirmed he has been offered $250 voucher as compensation for the traumatic experience.
