New research - conducted by LateRooms.com - has found that soon-to-be wed couples, their Best Men and Maid of Honours are pushing the boat out by splashing the cash on lavish night outs in order to mark the end of single life.

The study, which was carried out by the hotel reservation website to celebrate the start of peak wedding season, found that men spend an average of £346.19 on their stag dos, while the hens are willing to cough up £286.96.

However, six per cent of stags have admitted they're willing to spend a jaw-dropping £1,000 on their mate's final blowout.

The investigation found that the adrenaline-pumped males prefer to hop on a plane to celebrate their wedding antics, while women are more inclined to settle for a spa weekend.

LateRooms.com spokeswoman, Andrea Tarpey, said: ''Wedding bookings for hotel rooms will surge this weekend as invitations for popular June and July dates hit people's letterboxes. As well as the big day itself there are the all-important stag and hen parties to plan.''
