Ramblers in Lancashire were horrified to find the humongous snake lying dead next to the water's edge, the Daily Express newspaper reports.

It is thought the snake was abandoned by its owner after becoming too large or too difficult to keep as a pet.

Local councillor Ken Moss said: ''The general consensus is it has gotten too big for somebody and they have dumped it in the canal.

''If that's the case it's heartless because we have a reptile shop in Rishton and they would have taken it.''
