UK government adviser Professor Robin May claims that moggies are passing on a common parasite called toxoplasma to millions.

The parasite "manipulates" humans and those infected end up suffering from road rage and even become schizophrenic in some cases.

Professor May, of Gresham College in London, said: "This parasite gets into us quite a lot, up to a third of people have this parasite."

The academic explained that it is "disturbing" to think that human behaviour is being shaped by hidden parasites.

He said: "People infected with it have higher mental health issues. Those who drive riskily are likely to have toxoplasma. It's manipulating human hosts to take more risks."
