In 2018, 10 people aged between 90 and 99 were hospitalised for ''mental health issues'' after they took the Class A drug.

According to the NHS Digital report, the number of over 60s treated for mental health disorders related to cocaine has risen from 45 in 2008-09 to 379 in 2018-19.

Dr. Emily Finch - Royal College of Psychiatrists - told the Sunday Times newspaper: ''Many people don't realise that cocaine use can cause mental health problems, resulting in people becoming so unwell they need to be admitted to hospital.''
