The 'Downton Abbey' actress has joined cleaning experts Kärcher at the sprawling estate - which is better known as the country house in the beloved ITV period drama - after new research found that 69% of Brits of ditched the mop in favour of modern technology.

The brand is encouraged the nation to embrace the future and 'Swap The Mop' and as part of the campaign Samantha - who played Lady Rosamund on the show - led a team armed with Kärcher's Cordless Hardfloor range to clean the castle as thousands of fans are expected to visit before the movie's launch next month.

She said: ''I know every nook and cranny of this wonderful castle so I was happy to welcome Kärcher's team of cleaners to come and give its hard floors a proper clean.

''Thousands of fans visit this special place each year, so it's important that we give it a proper Kärcher clean to make sure it's pristine. It's time for even the grandest of venues to swap the mop for something more effective!''
