The Loch Ness Centre is convinced that space gadgets - that have been used in attempts to discover alien life on other planets - could be adapted to seek out what is lurking in the Scottish waters.

The centre has now contacted the US space agency to ask if it can use its expertise and technology to finally solve the mystery of Nessie and is awaiting a response.

Paul Nixon, general manager of the centre, said: "They're busy looking for signs of life out in space, how about they come and help us find signs of life at the bottom of Loch Ness."

The plea for help comes after the biggest hunt for Nessie in decades ended in failure last month - even though enthusiasts spent the weekend camping out in search of the monster.
