The pink bird could be seen wandering carefree down a main road after it broke free from its enclosure at Dudley Zoo.

Keepers were on the scene ''within minutes'' to return the creature to captivity.

The zoo - which has been closed for the past month due to the coronavirus pandemic - joked the feathered animal hadn't be observing the government rules during the health crisis.

It teased: ''One of our flamingos didn't stick to the Stay Safe, Stay Home message and decided to take her daily exercise via Castle Hill!

''Our keepers were on the scene within minutes and safely returned the flamingo back to their enclosure where she is now once again self-isolating!''

Dudley Zoo confirmed that the bird was unharmed after its excursion.

It said: ''We are pleased to confirm that the flamingo suffered no ill effects and is happily eating her breakfast this morning.''
