The Sicilian town of San Piero Patti i ''very quiet'' with ''lovely'' residents, but a lack of jobs in the area means it has proven unpopular with youngsters, with many feeling trapped.

Mayor Salvatore Fiore has decided to fight the population decline by taking influence from the nearby town of Gangi by selling off abandoned properties for just €1.

One of these homes - which hasn't been lived in for many years - is owned by Maria Concetta Abramo, and consists of just a loft and garage underneath.

However, the cheap price could rise because of its dilapidated state, with renovations potentially costing between €30,000 and €60,000.
