To coincide with the city's main Pride Parade next month, zookeepers are throwing a special event for their penguins that are in same-sex relationships and the occasion includes the animals being given special banners reading 'Some penguins are gay, get over it' - a reference to Stonewall's Get Over It campaign.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that two penguins named Ronnie and Reggie were co-parenting a chick and the zoo have confirmed that the couple are as ''strong as ever'' and can't wait to celebrate the day.

London Zoo said: ''Ronnie and Reggie got together in 2014, and famously adopted an egg that was abandoned by another couple a year later.

''The pair shared parenting duties of their chick, Kyton, until he fledged the nest. They remain as strong as ever and are often found snuggled up in their nest box together.''

Ronnie and Reggie aren't the only gay animals at the zoo and the pair shares their enclosure with fellow LGBTQ penguins Nadja and Zimmer and Dev and Martin.
