Jurg Randegger took to the course at Ostschweizerischen Golf Club and was able to play 252 holes in the space of 12 hours.

Randegger played the entire course 14 times during the challenge, which he had to complete on foot as the use of a golf buggy was forbidden under Guinness rules.

He bettered the previous record by 31 holes and raised money for Special Olympics Switzerland with the marathon golf challenge.

Announcing the achievement, Guinness World Records said: "Jurg attempted this record not only for his love of running and golf but also to bring awareness to the Special Olympics Switzerland that help people, through the power of sports, with intellectual disabilities."
