A man has been living in a recycling bin.

''Ultimately, the hypothesis we are investigating is if a person can have a relatively good and happy life by downsizing.''

Jeff Wilson - who is a dean and professor at the University College at Huston-Tillotson in Texas - has spent the past seven months living in the 36 square foot metal container in a bid to live a simpler life.

And, while at first he struggled to deal with the extreme heat and cold during the different seasons, he's now built temperature controls and is focusing on communicating the design aspect of the project.

According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, he said: ''We hope the dumpster will become a 'conversation box' on subjects as wide as tiny housing, energy sustainability, science education, and higher quality of life.

''Ultimately, the hypothesis we are investigating is if a person can have a relatively good and happy life by downsizing.''
