Colin Craig-Brown found the giant spud when he was weeding his garden and is now waiting to see if it breaks the Guinness World Record for the heaviest potato.

The potato weighs in at 7.8kg (17.2lbs) and easily eclipses the previous heaviest potato - which was found in the UK in 2011 and hit the scales at a mere 4.98kg (10lb 14oz).

Colin's wife Donna said: "We couldn't believe it. It was just huge."

The couple revealed that they have been having some fun with the ginormous spud and have decided to name it Doug.

Colin said: "We put a hat on him. We put him on Facebook, taking him for a walk, giving him some sunshine.

"It's all a bit of fun. It's amazing what entertains people."

Craig-Brown added that he is planning to turn the massive potato into vodka.
