George Ridgeway describes the adventurer, played by Harrison Ford on the big screen, as his "boyhood hero" and he emulated the explorer by finding the haul of 725 Iron Age and Roman pieces near his Suffolk home in September last year.

The loot dates from around 206BC - before the Romans invaded Britain - to the reign of Emperor Claudius in 47AD, when it is thought to have been buried.

Ridgeway told the Daily Mail newspaper: "Indiana Jones was my boyhood hero.

"I went to the British Museum when I was younger and I dreamt of finding treasure. I've done it and now I've added something to Roman history. It's wonderful."

Ridgeway's find has been provisionally valued at £65,000 although a final figure will be reached by the Treasure Valuation Committee. He will share a 50-50 split with an unnamed landowner.
