People are drinking cockroach milk as an alternative to dairy products because of its nutritional value and easier farming techniques.

The milk is derived from what's known as ''cockroach crystals'', which is a part of the insect's gut and are rich in amino acids and protein.

South African company Gourmet Grubb is producing the milk in a product called 'Entomilk' from sustainably farmed cockroaches.

They said: ''One of the most pivotal benefits of Entomilk is that it has a high protein content and is rich in mineral such as iron, zinc, and calcium.''

And a researcher at the Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine in India says the nutritional value of the cockroach milk is much higher than other milks and tastes no different to traditional cow's milk.
