The Waterfold Police Department revealed the animal was found loose in the rain in the Connecticut city, and one officer held onto its leash from inside a car to guide the donkey back home.
In a Facebook post, the police joked the donkey was given a ''field sobriety test'' or maybe even joined the force as part of a new ''patrol''.
The WPD added: ''Rather than walk it back in the rain (you know us cops melt in the rain) the officer used the other officers present to protect it from oncoming traffic and then slowly guided it back home.''
