The pontiff issued a warning to young seminarians at the Vatican that online porn is the devil's way of entering a person's life and urged potential priests to resist temptation by removing explicit content from their phones.
The Pope told his audience: "I am not going to say, 'Raise your hand if you have had an experience of this', - I won't say it.
"It's a weakness of many people, lots of lay people and also priests and nuns."
Francis alluded to the child sex abuse scandals that have hit the Catholic church as he explained the dangers of pornography in the religious environment.
He said: "I am not only talking about the criminal pornography including the abuse of children, where you see abuse live - that is degenerate, but the rather 'normal' pornography. Dear brother, be wary of this.
"It weakens the priestly heart."
