A rare Marvel comic was sold for over 2.4 million dollars at auction

The comic - which is a scarce ‘pay copy’ of the Marvel Comic 1 from 1939 - went for $2,427,777.65 following 33 bids at ComicConnect, a specialist online auction platform.

The issue - which was published by Timely Comics, which eventually turned into Marvel - is deemed a ‘pay copy’ because of the annotations from the publisher Lloyd Jacquet that showcase how much those who contributed to it were owed.

This particular comic has been sold prior since it was found in a filing cabinet in the 90s. In 2010, it went for $227,050.

Stephen Fisher, the CEO of the auction house revealed that the buyer opted to remain anonymous but spilled that the lucky fan was in his 40s and did not live in the United States.
