Louisa Sewell, 32, was fined £328 for stealing a 75p pack of Mars Bars, claiming to have not eaten for days due to her low amount of benefits, but the religious figure, Stuart Campbell, has raised funds to help her.

Magistrates in Kidderminster in Worcestershire, England, did not ''accept you go into a shop to steal just for being hungry'' although Stuart felt sympathy for Louisa, as she faced jail time if she failed to cough up the cash to pay her fine.

And after exceeding the target by over £12,000, he has vowed to give the extra money to poverty charities.
