Thangulla Satish died during a cockfight in Telangana, India last week and the animal was photographed after being taken to a police station.

Satish reportedly passed away after a knife that was tied to the rooster's leg sliced through his groin as the bird attempted to get itself free from his clutches.

The practice of cockfighting is banned but remains popular in some areas of India. The event in which Satish was killed was taking place in secret.

The authorities are investigating the man's death and want to track down those responsible for organising the cockfighting.

Local police officer B. Jeevan told The New Indian Express newspaper: "We are searching for the other 15 people involved in organising the illegal fight."
