Stacey Truman - cafeteria manager at Kingston Elementary School in Virginia - has been serving up the fruit with motivational messages scrawled along them.

This has ranged from sayings like ''You are loved'' and ''Follow your dreams'' to longer notes like: ''It isn't where you come from, it's where you're going that counts.''

Truman told the Washington Post: ''I want them to succeed in life and have an awesome day at school. Whenever I can put a smile on all of those little faces, I've done my job.''

She has since branched out to drawing emojis on oranges as she does what she can to brighten the students' day.
