Researchers in southwest China's Yunnan province produced the puppy after taking a DNA sample from a seven-year-old police dog called Huahuangma - who has won a series of awards for helping to crack multiple cases.

The three-month-old animal - which is China's first ever police dog clone - has reportedly adjusted well to her new environment and the Kunming wolfdog has already developed a strong sense of smell and isn't scared of the dark or unfamiliar places.

Project analyst Wan Jiusheng told Science and Technology Daily: ''She is friendly to humans, sociable and alert.''

After six months of basic training he will start extensive training in crowd control, drug detection, and security or evidence detection.
