Smiles have been said to improve mood, lower blood pressure, relieve stress, improve relationships, boost the immune system, reduce pain and even increase life expectancy so why would you not want to spread that around?! Well today you can, because it’s World Smile Day, so here are just a few ways to celebrate!

Do something for someone that you know will make them smile: Send someone you love a gift, give them a call, send them a happy email, tell them a joke, send a silly video or drop them a text- you know them best so whatever will make the corners of their mouth turn up- do it!

Text a smile: For every text you send out today, add in a smiley face emoji (if it’s appropriate). It’s a simple edition to something you will be doing anyway so pop one in each message and see what response it attracts.

Share something that made you smile: If you saw a video on Facebook, a clip on YouTube, a picture on Twitter or a meme that gave you a giggle, share it on your own feed and give your friends and followers a smile too.

Wear something with a smile: If you have a t-shirt, badge, PJs or a jumper with a smiley face on- wear it today! And if you don’t- well it’s about time you did right? So why not order yourself and your family something smiley?

Listen to some smiley music: Make a playlist of all the songs that make you grin and then play it and dance around until you can dance no more. “Happy” by Pharrell Williams or “Don’t Worry Be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin might be a great place to start.

Watch a smiley movie or show: Which movie or show always makes you smile? A Disney flick? A comedy? Your favourite stand up comedian? You know the one- so put it on and watch it AGAIN just to give you and your family a smile.

Smile at everyone you see today: While this may be difficult through a mask, people can still tell from your eyes if you are smiling so give your biggest, widest smile and see if they return the gesture!

Happy World Smile Day!
