Staffordshire University is offering a masters course aimed at people working both inside and outside of the industry. The course will begin in September 2022 and students will be given practical training in the art form as well as research the discipline.

Associate Professor of Acting and Directing Robert Marsden said: "We want to see how far we can take this."

The role of pantomime in the 21st century will be assessed on the course, particularly in regards to the Me Too movement and Black Lives Matter.

Pantomime veteran Christopher Biggins is supportive of the course as he feels it will help to "preserve traditions".

He said: "When I was starting my pantomime career over 50 years ago I wish I could have gone along the route of getting an MA. We should be preserving traditions... and Britain's heritage."
