New research from internet-based music streaming service, Deezer, revealed that a third (34 per cent) of three-year-olds and over half (56 per cent) of four-year-olds in the UK now use smart speaker devices independently like Amazon's Alexa to play music in their home.

Deezer found that 90 per cent of parents in Britain let their children control their sound system tracks at home.

For the majority of parents, keeping their children happy and avoiding family arguments are the biggest reasons for letting their kids become the DJ, however, two fifths said they allow their offspring to choose the tunes to encourage their musical discovery, and one in 10 revealed they had discovered music they liked due to their kids' choices.

Dom Wallace, Global Pop Editor at Deezer, said: ''It's fascinating to see children as young as three using voice technology to take control of the music at home.

''We know family music tastes are often poles apart, so we created the Deezer Family plan to squash the disputes and allow up to six people to listen to their own music - all on the same profile. Song recommendations are made just for you and your Flow stays free of the latest Disney movie soundtracks...unless you want them of course!''

Despite all of this, 81 per cent of parents still want to shape their children's musical influence by playing them their favourite songs.
