Record-breaking pooch Bobi, a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, passed away at his home in Portugal on Saturday (21.10.23).

The sad news of Bobi's death was announced on social media by a vet who had met the extraordinary animal several times.

Dr. Karen Becker wrote: "Despite outliving every dog in history, his 11,478 days on earth would never be enough, for those who loved him."

Bobi became both the world's oldest living and the oldest dog ever in February as he was recognised by Guinness World Records - eclipsing an almost century-old record for the latter accolade.

The pooch lived the entirety of his life with the Costa family in the village of Conqueiros and owner Leonel Costa felt that the "calm, peaceful environment" - as well as his diet of human food - was key to Bobi's longevity.

Bobi's successor to the title of the oldest dog on the planet is yet to be revealed.
