Daring 18 to 24-year-old people have admitted to suffering sex-related injuries by pulling muscles (31 percent), hitting heads with their partner (30 percent) and suffering burns (19 percent), according to a report by the Mix charity.

The study showed a fifth of women and a third of men have hurt themselves and taken at least one day off work to recover, whilst others revealed some had vomited and also got caught by parents.

The Mix, a charity that offers lifestyle support and advice to under-25s, showed that a fifth of young Brits do not know what a sexually transmitted infection (STI) is and are too shy to expose their privates to a doctor.

Dr Martin Godfrey, a GP from South London, said: ''Most patients are too embarrassed to tell a doctor that they injured themselves during sex.

''They are more likely to just say they have hurt their back or suffered a bite or a scratch and be vague about the details.

''But people do get a bit over-enthusiastic and hurt themselves after watching pornography or reading 'Fifty Shades of Grey'.''
