Doctor Sleep

Doctor Sleep

The publishers Hodder & Stoughton have finally released the cover for Stephen King's novel DOCTOR SLEEP, including an animated, interactive and shareable image featuring the book artwork.

Doctor Sleep is a revisit to the characters and setting territory of one of his most notable novels, made into a film by Stanley Kubrick, The Shining. It will be published on 24th September 2013.

Hodder collaborated with Think Jam- the award winning digital marketing agency- to come up with a cover that includes King’s devoted fans at the centre of social networking.

Fans will be able to watch the cover animate as well as exclusive content, with a video of Stephen King himself reading an extract from Doctor Sleep.

There is also an opportunity to enter a competition to be the first UK reader of the book. Fans can also embed the animated, interactive image across their own sites and social networks. The site will automatically update across the sites as new content about the book is released.

The animated, interactive cover uses ThingLink technology and can also be embedded across sites, blogs and social channels. It means that anyone with a website, blog, Twitter profile or Facebook page can embed the interactive image wherever they want.

Experience the cover is to check it out yourself, via www.doctorsleepbook.co.uk, www.stephenking.co.uk

and facebook.com/StephenKingBooks. Then follow the instructions to share and embed on your own site and platforms!

This cover reveal launches a six month social media and online campaign in the lead up to publication, focusing on key spikes of activity including a summer reading drive around THE SHINING and partnerships with third parties.

‘Hugely anticipated’ – The Sunday Times

As many of his readers, King wanted to know what happened to Danny Torrance. As the son and the boy at the heart of THE SHINING, we are eager to find out what befell him after the fateful night in the Overlook Hotel. DOCTOR SLEEP follows the story of the now middle-aged Dan.

In remote places in America, a group of people called The True Knot travel to find and live off the ‘steam’ that children with the ‘shining’ produce when they are tortured to death.

Danny becomes a drifter looking to escape the memories of his father, the drunk and violent man he became after working at the Outlook Hotel. He finds a job in a New Hampshire where his powers of ‘shining’ gives him an extra comfort for the dying in their last few days and so coins his name ‘Doctor Sleep’.

Then Dan meets Abra Stone, and it is her spectacular gift, the brightest shining ever seen, that trudges up Dan’s own demons and summons him to a battle for Abra’s soul and survival...

And if you want a taster before then, check out the CD or digital download of The Wind through The Keyhole in which Stephen King reads the Prologue.
