Pete Doherty facing five years in prison

Pete Doherty is facing the possibility of five years in prison after authorities in Germany announced they intend to press charges over an alleged burglary.

The former Libertines frontman was quizzed by cops in the Bavarian city of Regensburg in March after complaints of a break-in at a local record shop.

The British star, who was in the country to shoot a movie, later admitted he was outside the store when one of its windows was smashed, but claimed he was drunk and has no further memory of the incident.

Now it has emerged German prosecutors are planning to charge the star with "careless intoxication", which carries a sentence of up to five years in prison.

The singer/songwriter, who has fought a long battle against addiction to heroin and crack cocaine, is currently serving six months in a British jail for possession of drugs. He is due for release in August.
