The 27-year-old British superstar took the stage at the ceremony - held at The Staples Center in Los Angeles on Monday night (15.02.16) - to sing her ballad 'All I Ask' but things didn't go to plan.

Firstly, the sound cut out for several seconds at the start and then the volume seemed to fluctuate unevenly and also some of the musicians seemed to be playing in a different key to what Adele was singing in.

The problems did not go unnoticed by TV viewers with many taking to social media to complain about the sound issues.

However, Adele refused to be deterred by the problems surrounding her and soldiered on through track.

She had now taken to her Twitter account to explain that the piano microphones fell onto the piano strings and knocked the instrument out of tune.

And after leaving the ceremony Adele went to famous LA fast food joint In-N-Out Burger to comfort herself after a challenging evening.

She tweeted: "The piano mics fell on to the piano strings, that's what the guitar sound was. It made it sound out of tune. S*** happens.

"Because of it though ... I'm treating myself to an In-n-Out [burger]. So maybe it was worth it. (sic)"

Commenting on the sound issues a spokesman for TV broadcaster CBS - who showed the Grammys in the US - said: "There was a brief 5-8 second technical issue that was out of our control."

Other performances on the night came from Justin Bieber - who brought his little brother to the ceremony with him - The Weeknd and Lady Gaga who gave a tribute to the late David Bowie, backed by Nile Rodgers, who produced the star's album 'Let's Dance'.
