Alan Carr once mistook Prince Harry for Mick Hucknall.

The 44-year-old presenter – who is married to Paul Drayton - wasn’t wearing his glasses while on a night out in London so when a red-haired man started speaking to him, he thought it was the 60-year-old Simply Red singer before realising it was the 36-year-old royal.

And when he did realise his mistake, Alan tried to force the prince to dance with him.

Asked about that evening, he recalled: "I'd been invited to the Mayfair Arts club by David Beckham after meeting him in a Chinese restaurant.

"I made Paul come with me and the doorman wouldn't let me in, so I pointed to David Beckham and said, 'I'm with him'. That showed me where I am on the celeb list.

"I was buzzing because I thought, 'What an anecdote, I'm having a night out with David Beckham.'

"I'd lost my specs and I heard this posh voice say, 'Where are your glasses?' I thought, 'Christ, I recognise that face and that ginger hair - it's Mick Hucknall.' But it was Prince Harry.

"I started doing the dutty wine and the butterfly and boggling. Then I grabbed Prince Harry's tie and tried to pull him on top of me."

Alan was so drunk, he has no idea what happened next and admitted he often has to study pictures in online news coverages to remind himself of his boozy antics.

Asked what Harry did, he replied: “I'm not sure, I blacked out. I had to see how the night ended by looking at the MailOnline. When you have to do that to see what you got up to, you know it's bad.”

While Harry and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, have received a backlash since their decision to step back from royal life earlier this year, the ‘Epic Game Show’ presenter is a big fan of the couple.

He added in an interview: "Can I just say that I love Harry and Meghan. He was so lovely and down to earth.

"I am team Harry and Meghan all the way.

"He didn't have to be so sweet - by rights I should have been tasered by the SAS."
