Alexa Chung was "bored and sad" after she split from Arctic Monkeys frotnman Alex Turner.

The model-and-TV presenter admits she felt lost when the couple's four-year relationship ended in July 2011 and didn't know what to do with herself.

Rather than wallow in heartache, Alexa, 29, decided to throw herself into a new project which became her newly released book 'It' - an insight into her career, life and fashion inspirations.

Recalling her feelings at the time of her separation from Alex, she said: "I was approaching 30, and reflecting on how a lot had happened in such a short space of time ... And I was bored - really bored. Bored because I didn't have my fuse gig yet. Bored and sad. I shouldn't have said that. But, well, it's the truth. I was heartbroken and I didn't know what to do, so I decided to throw myself into a project."

Alexa moved to New York permanently in the wake of the split and landed a job presenting on Fuse News on America's national music network.

The fashionista has since dated Jared Leto, The Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. and Hurts frontman Theo Hutchcraft and she insists she is a "serial monogamist".

Speaking about the dating game in New York City, Alexa told Style magazine: "[It's] really good, not to brag or anything ... I'm a serial monogamist. I've had a string of months-long situations. Actually, the past two weeks is the first time I've sort of been single - ever. It's really nice. I feel calm."
