The No Doubt singer split from husband Gavin Rossdale earlier this summer amid rumours he had cheated on her with their children's nanny, and her new boyfriend thinks her new single, 'Used to Love You' is a "good" thing to come out of the end of the relationship.

Blake said: "She deserves it. If you go through whatever she went through to write that song, at least she's getting something good, positive out of it."

The 39-year-old country singer - who divorced wife Miranda Lambert earlier this year - revealed Gwen, 46, was "so excited" to be able to articulate her feelings about her marriage in the track.

He told 'Extra': "Right when she wrote the song she was like, 'My gosh, I put exactly what I wanted to say into a song.' Sometimes it's hard to put it exactly how you want to say it when it's that personal to you, and so she was so excited that she got that out, and then it ends up being this smash song that it's turning into."

Speaking ahead of Gwen's performance of 'Used to Love You' on 'The Voice' earlier this week, Blake admitted he was "thankful" for the blonde beauty.

He said: "I'm thankful for Gwen for tons of reasons, but mostly because she makes us all look a whole lot better on this show."
